Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Combine dry ingredients in a small bowl: whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Cream butter and sugars in a large bowl using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

  4. Add eggs and vanilla one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  5. Mix in dry ingredients gradually, stirring just until combined. Don’t overmix!

  6. Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using) with a wooden spoon or spatula.

  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Centers may look slightly underdone - that’s perfect!

  9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
